The School

The school was founded in 1899 and stands on a 16 hectare site overlooking open countryside on the outskirts of Sherborne, an ancient abbey town full of historic interest. Traditional Victorian buildings have been modernised and new buildings added to provide additional facilities including a superb Upper Sixth House, art block and sports hall. There is considerable mixing with Sherborne School (for boys) on a social level - discos for individual year groups are organised as are joint drama productions and there are a number of joint Sixth Form societies.

Academic Profile

Years 7 - 9 A wide range of subjects enhancing the National Curriculum is offered and Information Technology is compulsory.
Years 10 - 11 The majority study 8 to 11 GCSE courses - all students take English, Maths, Double Certificate Science, a Modern Language (French, German or Spanish), plus optional subjects - Science as 3 separate subjects, a second Modern Language, Ancient Languages (Latin & Greek), History, Geography, Religious Studies & Classical Civilisation, Art, Design & Technology, Music, Home Economics (Food or Textiles)
VIth Form Students take 3 or 4 "A" level courses from a range of 20 or more options. Some girls replace an "A" level with two "AS" subjects or add an "AS" course to a full range of "A" levels.Students also follow Cultural and General Studies courses which are operated jointly with Sherborne School.

Accommodation

In boarding houses of around 40 pupils each. Younger girls sleep in single cubicles - up to 14 cubicles in one area, whilst other houses offer rooms with up to 8 girls sharing. Older girls share 2 - 4 to a room. Upper Sixth form girls have twin or single study bedrooms in a purpose-built house with modern facilities and a self-service dining room.
