The School

Prior's Field was founded in 1902 by Julia Huxley, mother of the famous author Aldous Huxley. The main school building was designed by the architect Charles Voysey and is listed as being of architectural interest. The gardens were designed by Gertrude Jekyll, a respected English gardener, whose designs are enjoying a revival in popularity. Additions to the school remain in keeping with the style of the original building and include a Sixth Form house, a music block, Business and Computer department, a well-equipped Technology room and a Drama studio. The school is set in spacious grounds with playing fields, tennis courts and a small outdoor swimming pool.

Years 7 - 9 Broadly follows the National Curriculum
Years 10 - 11 The majority study 9 or 10 GCSE courses - core subjects are English, Maths, a modern language and Science, plus optional subjects: Art, Craft, Geography, History, Home Economics, Music, Religious Education, Technology, Textiles & Theatre Studies
VIth Form Girls take 3 or 4 "A" level courses from around 20 options. Many other subjects are available e.g. Additional Maths for Scientists, Information Technology, Practical Cookery and Textiles, Photography

Girls aged 11 - 16 are accommodated in the main school in rooms of 2 - 4 children, although in the two GCSE years all girls may have single rooms if they wish. All Sixth Formers occupy the Sixth Form House which consists of 50 study bedrooms, a common room, laundry and kitchen.
