The School
Battle Abbey was built by Duke William of Normandy to celebrate his victory in the battle of Hastings in 1066. The School was founded in 1912 in a nearby town, and moved to the Abbey in 1922. Although in the centre of town, Battle Abbey stands in 21 hectares of parkland containing the school's playing fields and a large, all-weather, artificial-grass playing surface. Pupils have use of the indoor swimming pool at the nearby prep school. Battle Abbey is a truly historic building with a lot of original features such as wood panelling and original fireplaces, but also has a number of well-equipped specialist rooms including 5 science laboratories, art & technology areas and a computer room.
